SCOPE

VLSI '99 is the tenth in a series of biennial international
conferences on Very Large Scale Integration Systems and their design,
sponsored by IFIP TC 10 Working Group 10.5 (VLSI). Previous
conferences have taken place in Edinburgh, Trondheim, Tokyo,
Vancouver, Munich, Grenoble and Gramado.

LOCATION

VLSI '99 will be held in Lisbon. Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is
a modern city which is undergoing profound transformations. Known as
the the city of the seven hills, mother city of sailors and explorers
of seas, a diamond enchased on the bank of a river, the Tagus, Lisbon
has a lot to offer both in terms of history, culture and social life.
Portugal's geographical location makes Lisbon easily accessible for
travellers from all corners of the world. Its Atlantic climate, with
some Mediterranean influences is such that the thermal amplitude is
rarely high, with lots of sunny days even during the winter.

AREAS OF INTEREST

VLSI '99 will be organized around two tracks:

Topics of interest include:
  1. Architectures, processor design, parallel architectures, signal processing, communications, protocols, automotive, application specific systems, custom circuits, video processing and compression, multimedia applications.
  2. Hardware/Software Codesign: embedded systems, methodologies, partitioning, reconfigurable circuits and subsystems.
  3. Mixed Analog-digital Design: data converters, modulators, RF analog design, high speed analog, design automation tools.
  4. Low Power Design: circuit and system design techniques, CAD, system applications.
  5. Micromechanical systems: integration of sensors, actuators, micromachining, packaging and test.
  6. Design Automation Tools: specification, system level synthesis, verification, simulation, layout synthesis, frameworks, applications, test, performance.
  7. Implementation Techniques: gate arrays, module generators, FPGA's, deep submicron.
  8. Wireless Communication Circuits: mobile telephone, wireless LANs, DECT, GSM, wireless applications.
SUBMISSION OF PAPERS Prospective authors are invited to submit a draft paper in English with the following format. The cover page should specify:
- submission to VLSI '99,
- title,
- category (1-8) which most closely matches the paper contents
- authors and affiliation,
- mailing address, phone, fax, and e-mail address of the contact author,
- a brief abstract describing the work,
- at least three keywords which can specify typically the contents of the work.
Papers should be formatted according to A4 or 8.5"x11", and the length should not exceed 10-20 pages excluding the cover page. The technical expositions should be directed to a specialist and should include an introduction understandable to a non specialist that describes the problem studied and the results achieved, focusing on the important ideas and their significance. All paper submissions, review and notification of acceptance will be done electronically through the conference's WWW pages http://algos.inesc.pt/vlsi99 The proceedings will be published as a book by Kluwer Publishing.
